Re: Handheld Showdown
I want to pick but I don't have much experience with DS. Never saw one in real life (played or never tried it at a demo kiosk). GB, GBA, GBA/sp, GBC is what I used to have experience with and they were good for what they was for. My favorite was Game Gear with the sonic games. PSP can be sick if you mod it and have a lot of PSX games to get the iso and upload to mem card. Then PSP can play all the NES, SNES, GBA, GB games I hear. Battery, size, and the disk drive are the only bad parts about psp I think. I'm picking DS because people seem to go crazy over it.

Yeah PSP is definately the most versatile if you mod it out. SNES/GBA/Genesis/N64/PSX/CPS2 Emulators as well as the ability to just straight up bypass buying PSP games and download the ISOs of them and run them straight from memstick. They have some decent games for it but not nearly enough imo, bring on FF Crisis Core, God of War: Olympus, and a crap load of new RPGs to try out!
Nintendo DS seems really cool, kinda lacking in the graphics department but I think the fun of the games and that damn little pen makes up for it. I've just recently gotten one and have only played Mario Kart DS, and it was just like playing Mario Kart 64 for the first time. I found a site that has a memory cartridge for DS that allows you to run NDS roms straight from it, so for both systems you can bypass the shelling out $30 per game.
GameBoy really only had one selling point to me - Pokemon. I loved those games as a kid, and still fun to pick up and play. Golden Sun wasn't too bad either. Really a good start though in terms of handheld gaming.
I never got the chance to play GameGear or anything that wasn't a GameBoy when growing up, so I can't really vouch for them.
My pick was PSP and let's see...
1. Final Fantasy I (remake)
2. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
3. SNES Emulated games
4. Pro Race Driver (/TOCA) 3
5. Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner
