I don't get it.
How I understand xi from reading here you can make a mob have th10 on it (don't even need a thf now? icr) so how are these gloves still useful?
Or am I just way off on how things work these days (my bet is on this)

not really.

How it works, is...

When a nm is claimed, there are 3 different procs you can do, red, yellow and blue.

Red is proced by a elemental ws. So you have to use all the elemental ws's until you find the right one (Blade:Ei, Cyclone, Energy Drain, Earth Crusher, etc) and then you get a message and the nm can't do anything for 30s, and it makes the Key Item and atma 100% drop off that nm.

Blue is proced by physical ws's (Blade: ten, Blade: Ku, Arching Arrow, Evisceration, etc) Once blue is proc'd the mob can't ws for 30 seconds, and the drop rate on gear is enhanced (only equippable gear, swords, hats, legs, rings, etc)

Yellow is proced by magic (X:Ni spells, tier 3/4/ga/AM spells, brd threnody's and blu spells) Once yellow is proc'd, the mob can't cast magic for 30 seconds, and drop rate on the items that give you AF+1/2 is increased.

TH is completely seperate, when a thf hits a mob, it immediately gets the amount of th it has equipped (TH3 traits, dagger, af2 hands af3+2 feet would be TH6). Every time you hit the mob you have a low chance at upping your th, and sneak attack/trick attack is a moderate chance at upping it.

My thf has Th5, and in a 5 min fight generally I'll get TH7, but it all depends on luck.

TL;DR
TH= good
Yellow/blue proc = Better
Yellow/blue proc + TH = best

Yellow/blue proc = Better

See I was correct. Blu level 69, I shall get a few AF+1 items after I'm done and not need to spend gil on ninjutsu (hopefully). Main reason fo leveling blu, though, is TE solo farming. I want to live in Abyssea.
