Help me...

...because its almost new tattoo time. Old friend is coming to town and wants to get a new tattoo and dragging me along again. Know what I've wanted for years but having a problem because my artistic ability sucks like most everything else I do. Gonna be a 3 part design and I'm set on two parts, but I'm having problems with the most important part: the spiral. Best thing I've seen was this (yeah, i googled it. -.- ):



(Other spirals were far too complex for me, and I know they would be an utter pain to get tattooed. This is very simple and the size is about perfect.)

Very concise and neat, which I like. Now the problem is, the middle is too detailed so I want it to be a more solid "dot" before it starts to spiral out. Another problem is I'd like to have another ring or two added to it because it's too simple in its current state. (not a big deal though). Lastly it pulls out too far from the center at the end, I'd like it to be tighter to the center but continue to go out to the right, but again, a little closer to the center (something going underneath it, and while we're at it, to the left and right too ;o )

I've tried playing with it in paint and crap but I suck. The place we go to charges a little extra if they design it so I'd rather not take it in ahead of time and have them do it, but if no one here can help me I'll probably bite the bullet and have them do it. Any help would be appreciated.

(bonus if you know why the spiral, I think juvant and kny would know for sure, dragir maybe. But alas, kny and juv are gone and dragir barely checks forums!)

However, I had two designs in mind, but the above is one I've wanted for...a few years and it beat out the other. The runner-up design I want is too depressing at the moment to get, I'd have to be genuinely happy one day to get it. Icarus's burnt wing. (but not on my back, thats gay. and not burning; already burnt, because burning would look gay.)

If worst comes to worst I'll have the artist design it, but if anyone here can give me a hand that would be super.

I already have a tattoo in latin for that; however, no one cares to ask, and the one time someone did ask and I told them what it meant, they interpreted it wrong and asked why I want to be a bum. Bitch.

I do plan on adding more latin; japanese/chinese characters scare me because theres always the chance you get it translated wrong.

Can be translated several ways, but all mean basically the same thing; All that is mine, I carry with me.

There are several old greek texts that reference it; the one story I remember offhand was from Ovid. It was about a man who was jealous of another man, who had a beautiful wife, children, property and many valuable possessions. The man with all these things lost them all, and the other man came up to him to rub it in since he was jealous of him before. The other man replied that all of his things were still with him; that he still had all his intellect, health, and carried the memory of all he ever had with him and would never lose it, and would never not be in comfort because of it.

So, after telling a friend about the tattoo and telling her it meant "All that is mine, I carry with me", she replied (and was being serious) "Oh, you mean like those sticks with a bag on the end like the homeless people carry around? Why not just get that tattooed instead if youre telling people you want to be a bum."

I would never get a tattoo because my mother would never speak to me again if I did. I saw this chick that had some stars tattooed on her wrist and I thought it was really cool looking. Three stars that got progressively bigger as they went up her wrist. Would look kewl on a shoulder or something imo.

My parents are also anti-tattoo, when I first moved back in here I would like, walk to take a shower with my shirt on because I didn't want them to see it, lol. Then one time my mom saw it and was like, oh.

Sister got a tattoo ages ago when she was 18, the fight was epic, and my sister regrets her tattoo now that shes older(nothing bad, just a flower on her shoulder) so my parents always used to tell me and my brother SEE? SHE HAS ONE AND SHE HATES IT NOW! TATTOOS BAD MKAY? whatev.

Also, funny story. When I was a wee lad I wanted to get the Sublime sun tattooed somewhere on my back or shoulder. When my friend called she asked if that was still something I wanted, and I said kinda but not yet, wanted something else. She then informed me that she saw a porno where the woman had the sublime sun tattoo on her back, and now I can never get it :< Probably for the best.

Um, maybe it would be easier to redesign the spiral if we knew what was going under and to the right. You basically are looking for a tighter spiral with a solid center? If you wanted it tighter, you would need to add more loops or the spiral would be smaller. But wouldn't this make it more complex(and painful) too?

I'm aware making it tighter to the center would require more loops to make it the same size, I even said I wanted 1-2 more loops! (but not necessary)
