DivX 7 will use the MKV container format! That's right, you heard it here first: our new format does not use AVI! Those of you now planning a street party do remember to send me an invitation ;)

I really hate mkv because my ps3 can't play it. Now every video will be mkv probably. No more easy anime episodes via browser. I still don't know why people picked mkv for anime episodes. Playing it on my pc didn't look any different than normal avi video.

Many reasons, mkv can embed subtitles without encoding it onto the video, also it can have multiple audio tracks.

Besides, I dont see any reason why divx7 can't be put into avi files, it's just a freaking container after all.

Isn't PS3 DivX certified? So I would think it's a plus if the PS3 gets updated to support MKV files.

There are certain AVI's the PS3 still won't play (and some MP4's) all depends on the codec. Fkn Sony add all the used ones FFS, I wanna be able to watch my anime on my PS3 again. With them all updated to 16:9 codecs none fkn work . . .
