Poems for the Masses

A POEM FOR WOMEN:
Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man, who's not a creep,
One who's handsome, smart and strong.
One who loves to listen long,
One who thinks before he speaks,
One who'll call, not wait for weeks.
I pray he's gainfully employed,
When I spend his cash, won't be annoyed.
Pulls out my chair and opens my door.
Massages my back and begs to do more.
Oh! Send me a man who'll make love to my mind,
Knows what to answer to 'how big is my behind?'
I pray that this man will love me to no end,
And always be my very best friend.


A POEM FOR MEN:
I pray for a deaf-mute gymnast nymphomaniac with
huge boobs who owns a bar on a golf course,
and loves to send me fishing and drinking. This
doesn't rhyme and I don't give a shit.

The Man in the glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,

Wow I haven't heard that poem in a long time, I wish I could remember who it was by! I remember disecting it in Literature class like 6 years ago. Disected is a good word for it, but chopping up poems into little pieces and analyzing them does take the joy out of them :s

That's one I studied too, I always liked it. I believe the latin phrase at the end means "It is good and fitting to die for one's country", or something like that :s

Eliot is awesome. I did one of my major undergrad papers on "The Wasteland" actually. Learned a LOT about the poem, though the modernist perspective seems to be pretty consistent across authors. Eliot is noted as being the master tho.

I really like listening to Yeats. His poetry really sounds good. Having someone read it aloud gives me goosebumps.
