I don't mind the mobs (as long as we're not fighting bunny rabbits and beetles every 10 levels ;o) that are repeated in FF-games, I actually think thats pretty cool. But I think its pretty wack to make a brand new game that supposedly isn't a sequel and use the same exact races as the first game but change the names...

You make a great point Sef. I hadn't thought about this even, since they're reusing a lot of stuff from ffxi, who's to say they won't treat endgame the exact same way. Not only that, what if they also treat rewards, and weapons/armor/etc the same (sidegrades, limited inventory, etc). Oh boy, screw this, not looking so good.

Well maybe they wont, there's no more leveling so not all things are the same.

I say its hard to prejudge a game before everything is known. True the characters look the same/similar but they did say the game play was gonna be different and more smaller party orientated. Does that mean no endgame type scenarios? Who knows, but to me those screens looked like gameplay from ff12 or a traditional rpg gameplay.

I think overall we will just have to WAIT and see...


would be nice if they could give us some kind of release date info...

Did you guys know that auto attack is out? You have to attack manually each time! Maybe they are onto something, but I'll be a mage if it's too crazy with the mashing. Also if you equipt a staff you don't attack but cast a spell in it's place. Attack is just for merees and it's an ability.

"Tanaka: In FFXI, we used an auto-attack system where you selected attacked and it would fight itself. However, in FFXIV you need to select those commands every time. The reason being is that the commands you choose to combine will result in different techniques being activated. How you combine these commands will be a key strategic element."

idk, that sounds kinda kewl. It makes it more of an action RPG which is going to make it more...well, active. I like the idea of combining techs. Reminds me of Chrono Trigger which is simply ballin.

Personally I like what I've seen so far, just the fact that there isnt an auto attack button tells you that the gameplay will be different. I'm expecting the battle system to work somewhat like crisis core (which is somewhat similar to KH). in that game you actually can dodge attacks and magic buy moving out of their way rather than stacking evasion and getting "the crab misses the player!" message and if you position yourself correctly you can slash more than 1 mob in 1 swing. Notice that the screenshots show 1 player fighting more than 1 mob and the visual effects of the swords indicate that it could hit more than 1 mob.

As for the job system, I hope it works somewhat like FF tactics advance (Gladiator helps me believe so). For those that didnt play the game, you unlocked jobs buy having combinations of other jobs leveled e.g, unlock Sniper by having level 10 hunter and lv 5 ninja.

The user interface seems to be somewhat improved, and the character movement seems to have changed also (from the taru vid). If you remember the 1st video we've seen of FFXI, some of the characters looked almost identical to previous FF games. i remember very well that one looked like selphie and one looked like barret.

These screenshots are probably only meant to show us what the game looks like but arent necessarily in the game, they're probably only showing off how the graphics are going to look like, much like the "jueno in rapture graphics" from a while back. or was it last remanant graphics? idr.

There's some speculation that that the beta is in this September sometime and they already stated the release is due for 2010.
