I like Akira and cowboy bebop. The thing I like about Akira is that it's so far away from Speed racer as far as animation go and visually impressive. It's like there's hardly any static images. Those guys put some serious work into that. I could never see myself doing that stuff, seems like so much work. Recommend some pwn action animez for my 30gig of hdd space. Well I can get more space if the anime is pwn enou.. wait or I could check for blu ray disks. Any info on the anime market choosing HD:DVD or blu ray? I might just wait to get anime depending on what is out. No changing disks.

And Chobits is a very strange anime, and a bit boring. Oh and Serial Experiment Lain, never could understand that one.

I would recommend "The Departed". Martin Scorsese's best film to date.

Lets see here:

Kenshin series: absolutely loved it. The movies are pretty bad ass and the second season is as good as any anime gets. I still enjoyed the third because by then i was in love with the whole universe.

Berserk: Many people are in love with the Berserk series for a good reason. Just a small word of caution, the first episode kinda gives away the overall plot after that so you might enjoy it better if you watch that one last(unless your into the whole ending, whoops heres how it happend thing). Still very enjoyable even if you watch the first episode first though.

Detective Conan: This is some good shit man, its also very easy to get people to watch this. The plots are fucking awesome, characters are awesome, and pretty much any intellectual person you meet will enjoy this show if they give it a shot. The series has been going on for over 10 years, and has like over 400 episodes and 10 movies out. Fan subbed episodes range from 1-200ish and then the rest are randomly done.

Monster: Some more good shit for ya. I only watched Monster because a friend gave me 3 dvds with the full series on it. Its pretty lengthy and it might not be like other common animes where you see fights most every episode. The story is very good and well told. Thought provoking and keeps the drama flowing.

Gungrave: See: Berserk. Watch the first episode last and it will make more sense. I actually bought the box set to this, and dont regret it at all. This series is simply amazing and i loved every bit of it, you owe it to yourself to watch this shit mach!

One Piece: DONT WATCH THE FUCKING ENGLISH VERSION!!!!!! They fucking killed it in the transition, which makes me mad because it turns people off from the show and they wont give the japanese version a shot. K-F fansubs are the best and currently they are at about episode 220. Ill admit the character style can be a bit odd, and you might think WTF a few times, and it might seem kiddish here and there as well. HOWEVER, the anime shines overall. I originally just watched this because it had so many fucking characters in the anime game Jump Superstars for DS, but its now one of my favorite shows. The characters really grow on you as you continue to watch it.

Other notable anime:
Cowboy Bebop: This takes place in mars, and honestly i cant really stand shit that has to do with outerspace. I did however give this series a shot and really enjoyed it. The series was just something to watch but from like episodes 20-26, was golden. One of those episodes was really thought provoking, id say the whole series is worth watching just for that 1 episode.

Peacemaker: This series is based on the shinsengumi, and i enjoyed it. I would recommend it if you have interest in the shinsengumi after watching the kenshin series.

Samurai Champloo: This is like a hip-hop style take on japanese history turned fiction. The single episodes are fiction based on history but it has a story of its own that spans across the 26ish episodes. Worth a watch id say.

Elfen Lied: Probably the most "gory" anime on the entire list ive given. Only spans 13 episodes which makes it a no brainer recommendation since its good. The best part would be the theme song, gives a great vibe to the entire show and its mood.

Samurai Deeper Kyo: Its like 24 episodes long. The battles are normally over quick, which some people dont like. I actually thought it was a little refreshing after naruto where some shit carries on for way too long. I MEAN WAY LONG. Worth checking out.

Rune Soldier: This has many female characters and pretty much only one main guy character. Its a comedy, and does a good job at it IMO. 24 range in episodes and worth checking out.

Black Lagoon: Id save this one for last, i didnt really like it much. It was only 13 episodes so i watched the full thing but the characters just never really did it for me. The story didnt either, not something id really recommend when you have all that other good shit i just told you about.

Goldenboy: This is only like 5 episodes. Its kinda perverted comedy but i heard it was funny so i watched it. Not really my style but it had a few funny moments.

Hah I was hooked on Detective Conan when it aired on cartoon network. It came on at like 5am each morning, or weekend. They stopped airing it, I shall track it down now that I know it has like 400 episodes. Thought they stopped because it ran out of shows (they always went in a loop, maybe the only shows that had english voice).

Yeah it went by the name of Case Closed here in the US, and its how i originally found out about it. I also remember Kenshin was the first anime i ever watched from an import VHS tape lol.

Conan is def worth looking up ploid, but you will need a bigger HD. I think i have over 50 gigs of Conan episodes/movies. You should do like i did, get an extra HD just for anime, and get a cable to hook your pc up to your TV.

I picked up a 250 gig HD from best buy on black friday for like $60, $20 on a DVI cable and now i can watch all of my anime on my HDTV LCD without changing disc

This is probably one of my favorite animes of all time along with Gungrave. Despite the gore, it has a really great story, and Nyuu is fucking adorable, much like Chi in Chobits.
