FATEs? the new NMs? How do they work?

my only experience with a MMO is FFXI, i haven't played any since. I stick mainly to my xbox. How do the fates work? I saw on the SE forums that they work similar to monsters from WOW? So that everyone gets the same loot that drop or something? If so, that should eliminate a lot of problems. I'll miss solo camping regular NMs though. I made quite a bit of money selling ebow and bat cape. (not sure if i remember their actual names lol)

Think Besieged, a event randomly show up on the map (it could be anywhere), then your map is updated pointing out it's location (blue circle). You just fight stuff like besieged and after it's over you are rewarded on how much work you did. I'm in low level zones so it's just gil and exp so far.

It's a short event, you can miss it if you blink. There can be multiple FATEs up at a time. The monsters are much stronger than the surrounding mobs. More HP, hit harder and probably have unique abilities. Reinforcements show up to keep things going, sometimes there's not much to fight if people kill fast.

I hear it's like guild wars2 event stuff, but I haven't played any beta yet.

Yep, like the GW2 events, but even early GW2 events are more of a battle. These FATEs are just free exp and gold if you can get there fast enough. I'm sure the later ones will be more interesting, and provide more incentive to participate in them. Imagine HNMs showing up in groups of 2 or 3 even, with a ton of adds. That would probably be very very laggy though. The first day of the 2.0 beta FATEs were extremely laggy, I'd use an ability and 5 seconds later it end up activating. So I doubt they would want to do something like that unless they get the net code to be very smooth.

I have yet to fight a NM outside of the Leve system. Got my butt kicked by shenanigans those things do. Spawning stuff that I wasn't expecting. Having higher HP than I was expecting, with some awesome ranged magic that I wasn't prepared to dodge type stuff.

I read that the beta fates were just spamfests and kinda shitty, hope they make some decent stuff for 50cap.

Ewwww... Besieged sucked. I hated doing those events. Back then my internet connection wasn't all that great. Besieged would leave me in super lag city man. I like the idea of everyone getting similar drops etc. but not in a Besieged kind of way. It takes no skill to just spam spells/attacks and hope it kills the mob.

That is one thing I loved about FFXI. You had to actually have a plan in place to kill most mobs. when I was soloing NMs, I had to work out different strats on how I would go about killing stuff. That alone made the game worthwhile to me.

Hmm well having 2-3 HNM type monsters show up at a fate would be bad if it is just filled with low level people spamming. I can see a swarm of people just dying... fast. lol

There are end game events, it's just not FATEs, NMs are spawned. I think they learned from ffxi's kings complaints.

Getting more excited for this game the more I play. Got my lancer to 30 and opened up dragoon. Rufs and I have been doing guildhests (like a 4 man BCNM) and yesterday we did the level 30 with the marlboro. It did not go well and we wiped about half way. We regrouped but the healer left, complaining about how he could not find a group that could beat this fight. Well, we went at it with 3 and ended up winning.

Rufs has been pretty damn good at tanking. I need to get some better gear to really test him.
