Play a mmo, you'll make friends for life.

#1 Post by Ploid »

This is interesting, the title is a paraphrase of something I read recently. There was a person that wanted to play games with friends but their friends didn't play games or something. For me, all of my friends only played madden, NBA, Boxing games. When online gaming started to kick up I was hooked on Socom 2 online with online people which became good friends. Then I got into ffxi... boy how did that turn out. People got friggin married right under my nose in this game. So many people in fact that when my cousin married a guy she met online I was able to explain to my aunts and uncles how this isn't as bad as they think it is ("He's probably a murderer!"). Who all got married in Eden alone?

Even the Ploid himself has made some interesting friends on the FFXIs. Someone in ffxi Fairy suggested I marry them lol (in game most likely, I didn't entertain the thought), I immediately said no and laughed. It was a good friend that I knew for a long time, internet friend which made things very awkward. And now, thinking about it that person was pretty emo. I hope she/he/it wasn't suicidal, I have no idea what happened to them after that. The first person from the internet that I let ship something to me was from FFXI, I used my office (shut up sef) as the address and I figured he entered it into google maps, and could probably figure out what car I drove because I mentioned it here, now he knows where I live, and when I'm not home he enters my house and put pringles in my cabinet when I mention I want pringles on these forums...

Look at these darn forums, Lutia keeps it going for some reason, and we still chat. This is kinda crazy, the thing is, WoW must have been even bigger with the online friends department. I don't know why we still chat, I try to keep things impersonal even though some of you don't guard your personal details like I do (Vedder CEO of Bank of America). We chat about meaningless stuff, and make fun of Square Enix. When Lutia posted that the thread magic configu-la-boba-mentator was going to change I imagined not having these forums to post stupid pictures or watch Vedder's youtube videos but forget to respond because I was watching it on a cellphone (I really wish there was a Eden app). How long until Lutia gives up and we are no longer internets fwends? I may cut myself, ok I'm not going to play around with that. I may have a spy in my house for real and they may check here for my true feelings and may think I'm suicidal, and set up a intervention. I like pringles :fear:

Edit: These days I stay away from the social aspect of MMOs. They take up way too much time, and I know I can't afk at the drop of a hat when in them. I may end up playing Guild Wars2 and spam World Vs World like Dhil. I bet you can play that whenever wherever, and no one depends on you to keep going for hours.

Pretty much, there is almost always something to do in WvW and usually at least a handful of people playing on our server. You won't be able to take the larger objectives whenever you want but you can flip camps solo if you're good or towers with a party. Personally, I'm in a wvw focused guild and I am an officer. I do play often but I still have no obligation to log in and play. I can come and go as I please which is rather nice.

It's true, I "hang out" at a lot of forums because I need to get my info somewhere, but it doesn't feel like this. Honestly, I wish at times this board was bigger (more people).

Hard to believe I've been hanging out on this or another version of this forum for over at least 7 years now.

I get game recommendations from you guys, laugh at funny pictures, Sef became my irl girlfriend, so there's been a lot of positives that came from FFXI. Aside from the fact that it made me play basically every other RPG completely different than I played it before....definitely made me play smarter.

Before FFXI (ff7-ff10) I thought Protect and Shell was a waste of mana. I never noticed the difference so I just didn't use it. I remember clearly on a FF8 battle vs cerberus, I tried shell for a few rounds, thought "this spell sucks" and never looked back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... lg0#t=223s I remember that fight being more epic, most likely because I'm horrible at games. Cerb tore me apart multiple times. And so the dismissal of Shell and protect. Heck I didn't really care for haste until FFX because the characters actually animated faster, and you saw that they got more attacks in because of that list hah.

Yeah the Haste animations, haha.

Cerb in FF8 was a pretty easy fight, but was by far one of the most useful GF's that I can remember...I don't think I used any others in battle except for that because of the animation time. omg triple, that shit used to be so baller.

That still remains one of my favorite games of all time, definitely top 5 without question. Only problem was that it was exceedingly easy to break with a Meltdown > Aura > Renzokuken combo...basically could wipe out anything in a minute.

I always would've traded every memory I ever had of Eden and FFXI for more gil in FFXI.

If it is him, he got us killed in the most epic way. He was in my social Stars of Destiny.
