Heroes of Newerth is marking its first anniversary with several enhancements and updates. And if you haven't yet checked out the multiplayer-based PC RPG, developer S2 Games is starting an 11-day free-to-play session today.

“The HoN community has been instrumental in the success of the game, helping us to make tremendous strides since last year’s launch,” said S2 Games CEO and co-founder Marc DeForest. “In just the last month, our players enjoyed over 650 million minutes of HoN! We have an average of 30,000 people playing at any given time and daily concurrent peaks of over 50,000 players. We’re looking forward to increasing these numbers by continuing to add game updates and reward systems like the HoNiversary F2P session that keep existing players engaged, and encourage new players to join.”

A patch for the game is going live tonight, which is designed to streamline the game's store and interface to attract those new players. It adds tooltips designed to clarify what various items do, as well as speeding up the amount of time that it takes to purchase items from the store. In addition, avatars Winston Charmadon and Thor Thunderbringer have been added.

"Now you can get every racial and sexist slur hurled at you for the low, low, price of free!"

This game seem to be the sequel of DOTA, the game Eudon played so much and would skip events for. Anyway I think some of you played DOTA too and now you can play it for free for 11 days. It seem to be subscription based or you just don't have to pay to download the game. I don't know.

50k isn't that many. Looks to be a indie game, I never heard of the company either.

Oh 50k at once online. Ok that is a lot, but its a PC game, only people you don't know play games on PC, and there are millions of those.

The new DOTA. I have no idea what's going on in this game but it looks pretty.
