8th grade girl calls 911 during class after teacher rattles desk

ATHERTON, Calif. (AP) - A California school teacher was placed on paid administrative leave after he rattled a table to get the attention of his math students, startling an eighth-grade girl who used her cell phone to call police.

Atherton police Sgt. Tim Lynch tells the Palo Alto Daily News that officers went to Selby Lane School Tuesday afternoon because of reports a teacher was causing a disturbance.

Officers found a calm teacher with class in session.

The sergeant says the teacher's table-rattling startled a student and she used her cell phone to call 911. He says other students in the class weren't bothered by the teacher's actions.

Redwood City School District deputy superintendent John Baker says the teacher was placed on leave because there was a police response.

I remember when I was in elementary school no one had a cell phone.

How about Junior High 12 years old?

Ontario doesnt have junior high. 1-8 elementary.

I remember I brought my cellphone to school one time when I was in high school...ever. There really is no point of bringing it into class if everyone you hang out with is within 100 yards of you anyway.

This is more like how my neighborhood worked, Sef must have grown up on the right side of the tracks or something.

It was from the NHL awards last year. My girlfriend loved it and she hates hockey.
Also, we didn't have gangs where I'm from because of the 50k people there were only 2 black families. The other 49,990 people were white.

To be honest in my school it wasn't real gangs, just dudes pretending. I'm sure you had groups in school. Groups that were bad news, and the hall fights were pretty much horsing around. And there were people that if you get in a real fight with that you'd have to deal with their other associates (for me it was a family).

Also black people aren't even close to the only gangs. There's MS13 that are the worst gangs in the world allegedly.
