I did do Abyssea before I stopped playing; and it was fun.

Went from 80-85 in one afternoon from Abyssea. Picture an 18man exp party where mobs never stop spawning and you can make up to 600exp per kill. The longer your in, the more exp you get. There's a little more to it, but that's the jist of it.

Also to add onto what Lutia said, all the "old" gear that was highly sought after is pretty garbage compared to the new stuff imo. The perle gear that I picked up from an npc is pretty badass; the DRG AF3 is even better!
