PS3 newb halp!
In this post I summon the powers of Plois! Pure and Just, Black and Steel, The Void Transient - Defender of the Negaverse, and Harbringer of Useless Information!
(also anyone who knows stuffs about ps3's is welcome to chime in^^)
so i'm gonna get a ps3 when ff13 comes out, thought SE would give us North Amerikkkans a nice bundle pack, but seems like thats a no go, so i must settle for a normal one.
what do i need to make sure everything is super awesome and i can have a gay old time?
prolly gonna get the 120g slim, and mayhaps the GT5 dualshock bundle. size doesnt matter right? i can always attach an external harddrive or is there something more complicated involved in that?
and once i get stuff set up, how do i hook up with you guys with ps3's to play stuffs together or just chat?
also, what kinda extra bonus 'tips & tricks' stuff can i do to make my ps3 experience the most awesome it can be?!
in exchange for your valuable information, i will offer a get out of jihad free card, redeemable on your next life threatening attack of your choice!

It does everything for you. All you need is a TV with the right color connectors really, internet is wireless and free

Re: PS3 newb halp!
Get whichever is the cheapest, you can always add in a 500gig hdd or whatever other cheap large HDD you want. If you just want the 120 stock gig PS3 anyway go ahead. For things to connect it to the tv, if you have a HDTV and want to play blu ray movies in 1080p you need a HDMI cable wich are very cheap as long as you don't buy the Sony, or Monster name brand kind. Heck your Directv box might have came with a extra HDMI cable.
That said gl with FF13, hope you dont spend too much on that game lol.
For the eden members on PSN, there's Oraphin (same psn name), Vedder (Eginty* I'm spelling it wrong again), Killer (forgot), Sureaboutthis (something), Dhiloda (HuntingBears45 or something), and such.
Required disk.

For bonus tricks.
Make a Japanese account for early JP onry demos.
Make a Hong Kong account for early, or JP onry games that are in english sometimes, and you can use your normal credit card (unless they changed it).
Find a friend that has a PS3 (a trusted friend) and share PSN games with them (up to 5 people. Either take turns buying PSN games, or make one account and everyone add funds and buy whatever, making all the games accessible to the friends. I suggest you only do this with family.
Uh subscribe to netflix for the movie streaming thing, and to rent blu rays. Movies Movies and more Movies in HD. If you aren't a fan of movies just rent them.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?

Re: PS3 newb halp!
Not all of you^^
It really does set up super easy. The only thing you'll need to access the internet is your WEP key (if you even have one). It will automatically scan for wireless and etc...
The PS button on the controller brings up the main menu which is pretty much how you navigate the net and your machine (music, movies, browser, net settings, and friend list). To add someone just click the PS button and hit request to add friend.
If you have an HDMI TV then you'll need a cable, but the AV plugs work just fine. Like they said, internet gaming is free unlike XboxGay60.
You're getting one at a good time, sweet new games coming out. I actually just got Heavy Rain yesterday.
Did you get it already? What other games were you looking to get.

You got heavy rain, did you play it yet? I'm going to play through it again when I get a chance. I want to try to keep everyone alive.

Re: PS3 newb halp!
I screwed up bad on the bike.
Played some again today, I like how they have a scene select like a dvd/blu ray disk movie. It's very slick, makes playing through again, or just to play certain spots easy to access. Bike don't fail me now.
Edit: Oh you should be able to activate the DLC code tomorrow 3-04-2010

Re: PS3 newb halp!
I'm not getting ff13 vedder, too nuttered and linear for me. Thinking about taking it off of my gamefly Q as well, it might come before this Wii game I have on there lol (Wario Ware Smooth Moves). I might just take it off Just Cause 2 and God Of War are coming out soon. I want to test Just Cause before I buy it.

Oh I thought it was the 4th. One more day!

Re: PS3 newb halp!
i havnt bought the ps3 yet, it turns out starting monday i'll be sent off to the nuclear station to work.. so until i find a place to stay up there, i'll be in motels... (i was planning on taking a sick day on tuesday to go buy everything lol
)
once i figure out my assignment, and my schedule, i plan to buy it and carry it with me, regardless if i find a place or just staying in motels... vd do you recommend a special carrying case for your stuff, or you just throw it in your suitcase?
i had bought a samsung T240HD monitor last month to get ready for some ps3 awesomeness too, and now i wont be able to use it till i settle down D:
o and plois, please stop the FF hatin =(

Re: PS3 newb halp!
I usually just put it in my suitcase when I bring it around with me. I usually throw my pants at the bottom and then put the ps3 into the suitcase, putting all of my other clothes around it. I'm not horribly careful with it and nothing has even come close to happening to it. I'm not even sure if they have specific cases for stuff like that. You'll be getting the ps3 slim too I assume, so that should make it even easier to bring around (mine is from the day the 80 gig came out).
If you have a TV (monitor) you can bring with you DO SO. Innumerable times (including last night) the hotels will remove the backing where the AV plugs are supposed to be so they can have their gay movie stuff or whatever. I shit you not when I say that I'm currently looking at an N64 controller hooked up to the back of the television here, so they won't let you hit it up with your stuff. However, sometimes the hotels I stay in will have flatscreen TV's and the ability to select TV input (other times they might lock it like douchebags.)
One word of warning, if you're staying in a high-end hotel (I consider what I stay in high-end; Hampton Inn, Hilton, etc) you'll require an internet password and I've found that in Hampton Inn's specifically that you'll have to type in to access the internet. Unfortunately, sometimes it won't recognize the OS you're using (PS3 OS isn't something they've configured for) so you won't be able to get on the internet with your machine from your hotel room.
Feel free to ask any questions.

Re: PS3 newb halp!
I'll shut up, I await you guys impressions, like I'm waiting on everyone else impressions. I may get entertainment out of it. SE's damage control already gave me some entertainment
I just don't buy it, FFXIV is coming out soon and it very well better have detailed cities.
"In the same interview in which Toriyama explains the linearity of Final Fantasy XIII, he also mentioned the lack of towns was due to the fact that in producing HD quality graphics it would take far too much time for the developers to create."
The interviewer then asks as to why Final Fantasy XIII has fewer towns compared to previous titles in the story, and whether this relates to seeking a ‘non-stop’ story, to which Toriyama explains “Yes, it is one of the reasons, but more importantly, it is a result of considering HD graphics will be the mainstream. Considering the amount of work to make graphics that deserve HD, it is hard to make towns in the conventional style.”
