jus sayin!
I play 14 a little bit, but there's nothing epic about it.
Read a thing (maybe here ijdk) about how in GW2 zones will scale to you, so if you're lvl 50 and running through a lvl 20 zone things will aggro you anyways, sounds terrible tbh.
Games a fuckin mess man. Maxed out my level/craft in like a week. Every move you make shoves xp down your throat. The level scale thing is as awful as it sounds. Each zone contains variations of exactly the same quests and the storyline and cutscene cinematography/timing just blows. I was litterally able to solo the second from last boss by positioning my character inbetween its attack pattern and afking for like 20mins. No death penalty (other than equipment damage) means all dungeons and world events turn into zombie-fests and world claim makes everything boring as shit. Its basicly a game void of any challenge or competition. Even the AH is shared between all servers so 95% of the time youre better off npcing everything.
I'm hoping XIV 2.0 brings back and adds to ffxi's mechanics. I'd seriously just go for a graphically updated xi that they could build on.
Anyway, confessions? Nothing major really.
1) When I cleared my account I sold all my gil, but kept the character. Oddly enough I didnt like the idea of my character being used by some randomer and likely ending up banned. Id intended to leave her logged out in Misereaux Coast overlooking the waterfall, and did initially anyway. A couple months down the line I reactivated to see what was going on and if I remember correctly never got around to putting her back.
2) The only relation I had to botting was the absolute killing I made on those trumpet/neried rings from shells which I bought off Mefya. (Assuming of course the rumors were true.) The crafting and AH system in FFXI was easily the best I have experienced in any MMO. I really enjoyed playing the market, farming my own materials and trying for HQs. If I remember right I had a full set of signed Genie, minus the shoes as I could never get that damned urganite to spawn.
3) Leading Rhapsody with Elrina was an interesting experience. Trying to organize people on such a scale as well as deal with all the unavoidable bullshit, keeping track of attendance and trying to start up a sea group was slowly driving me mad, right up until shortly afer Xeph joined and convinced me to send an application to Eden.
Saying that though, one of my fondest memories of XI was fighting the Jailer of Faith with a group of 5 people from Rhaps that had never attempted it before. Lost so much xp in that fight, but it was great fun.
3) The sense of peril and excitement when you first entered a zone and tried to hit its gate crystals without dying, weaving in and out of mobs, spamming sneak and invis and then inevitably aggroing something and running for your life with a train of mobs following you was great. Even better that once you leveled up you could come back and blow the living fuck out of everything.
This:
4) I always thought that BLM was the best job in the game, and that the few better BLMs in Eden were like the elite club of awesome.
5) I used to enjoy collecting titles, running about and killing random useless NM's/completing useless quests for the sake of a title I'd proably never use really appealed to me for some reason. Id love for XIV to implement this but in a more refined form, with some kind of completion list or what have you.
6) I actually enjoyed camping, as long as it was with a group of people anyway. Always meant you had the time and people to run about, talk to and do random shit with inbetween windows. Even if it was as simple as seeing who could nuke the highest on what, or helping people find chests and zone maps. Tiamat drove me close to the point of insanity though, that window was just cruel. I only wish people had been more willing to fight the less useful NMs like Vrtra and Jormungand, even if just for the sake of it.
This as well:
7) If I could go back a few years, to when Eden was at its height, I would probably do it all over again, because I did enjoy it and miss the feeling of belonging in a huge group of strangers. That, I liked.

The fact I couldnt join any active salvage groups really pissed me off and is why I started leveling MNK. I ended up with it at 69 and just got bored of it. By that point my time in the game was winding down anyway, but I still kinda wish Id gotten to experience a bit more of it as I really liked the concept.
9) I was cheap as hell with everything, refusing to buy anything until I desperately needed it. Never bothered with food as I considered it a waste most of the time. Avoided buying potions unless I was literally forced into it. This actually led to me finding one of my more profitable crafts, Wyvern Helms, as it meant I only had to spend like 3k per 12 crafts as long as I was willing to farm the r/e skulls in the arse end of ifrits cauldron. I remember Xeph getting pissed with me for not having Erase one limbus, and holding onto my CCB for as long as possible during CoP6-4 to save myself like 50k.
So like, let me know what severs y'all are on if you intend on playing the new XIV. It would be fun to play with some of you again.
Also, here BC, youll enjoy this. Even if the guy is Welsh.
