Six female teenagers — four of them underage — have been charged for their part in the alleged sexual, physical and emotional abuse of vulnerable residents at a US nursing home where they were employed as caregivers.

Brianna Broitzman, 19, Ashton Larson, 18, and the four other girls, all 17 at the time, allegedly targeted residents with illnesses such as Alzheimer's for a series of humiliating assaults which took place at the Good Samaritan nursing home in Albert Lea, Minnesota, between January and May this year.

Prosecutors allege Broitzman carried out various assaults including waving her bare buttocks in front of one resident's face and aggressively rubbing others' genitals for sexual stimulation, the Albert Lee Tribune reports.

She also allegedly told police she poked her victims in the breasts and that the teenagers had taken a number of photos and videos of their actions.

According to court papers, Larson allegedly spat on someone, inserted her finger into a resident's anus and covered a resident's mouth to stifle screaming.

One of the residents interviewed by police reportedly said Larson and Broitzman would "spit into a resident's mouth because they were upset that the resident was drooling all over".

The six teens, all ex-students from the same high school, picked out specific residents to assault, the report said.

Broitzman and Larson both face at least five charges — mostly relating to assault — which each carry up to a year's jail and a $4700 fine.

Specific details about the other teenagers’ charges were not available for legal reasons.
