Numbers are supposed to be impressive, right? Well, it's been 10 years, two hardware generations, and about seventeen thousand rumors since the last pure number Street Fighter came around. And today we have the first ever official details on Street Fighter IV.

We don't blame you if your eyes have already skipped down to the screenshot lower on the page (yes, that's from the game engine). Take your time. But we've got some information as well, so the rest of this is probably worth reading when you get a chance.

Though the screenshot doesn't answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. Ryu and Ken return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but beyond that the character roster is a mystery. And then there's the issue of what platform(s) the game will end up on, which at this point Capcom is keeping close to its chest (if you search 1UP's database, you'll find listings for arcade, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but those are just guesses based on the graphical quality).

For the full reveal of the game -- including hands-on impressions, a rundown of the new gameplay system, and loads of details on new features -- look for the January 2008 issue of EGM in stores soon and hitting subscribers any day now. And then after you check the issue out, keep your eye on 1UP's Street Fighter IV hub page for ongoing coverage continuing into January.

Anyway, are you still reading this? Didn't you see the screenshot above? Click it and look at the larger version! All your friends are doing it...

-Rumor- It's believed that the dev group that made Rumble Fish (3d fighting game seen here *youtube combo vid*) will do the 3d work for SF4. -Rumor-

Edit: Wait nvm, it won't be DIMPS that develope but Capcom Japan (dur).

While many of you have pointed out, CUSA owns the rights to Street Fighter, we have contracted Capcom Japan to handle its development (we felt they would, by far, do the best job with the title).

SF IV Info:

-Producer is Yoshinori Ono, who worked on SF Alpha, SF III, and oversaw Capcom Fighting Revolution

-Ono wants it to be the "second coming" of SF II. Wants it to feel like "homecoming" for SF II fans.

-Online play is planned with potential for microtransactions such as new characters and stages

-The look is not really similiar to the teaser trailer. A "cartoon-shaded style that manages to evoke SF II reimagined in 3d"

- runs in 60FPS

- Gameplay sticking with 2D- Ono wants to "preserve the strategic nature of SF II"

-camera doesn't budge

- Trying to get "as many SFII characters in as possible"

- Takes place after SFII Turbo and before SF III

-Controls are traditional- "in its current early state, the game feels remarkably close to Super SFII Turbo"

- Game is more aggressive- more about attacking than defending. Many of the SF III and Alpha gameplay systems have been scrapped.

- Producer says they haven't decided what platforms or even if there will be an arcade version. Version Shane played was running on a P.C

- Ono suggests Capcom could make a PS2 or DS version if "they deem the market suitable"

-Ono not enthusiastic about making it an exclusive- wants to get it out on as many platforms as possible

Not street fighter, but it brought back memories of times made of awesomeness. Loved this intro. For a fighting game this was not the norm. Soul Edge

See it in motion. In stills I guess SF3 looks weird too, but being 2d helps it. Also this isn't the final art, will probably be different models.

But in motion the bulky art don't look as weird.

Daigo and Justin. What an amazing match that was :D

Everyone went fuckin nuts when they saw Daigo parry Justin's special and then finish him off like that.

Daigo is the one that got me hooked on SF3 and playing as Ken.

Since this is a street fighter thread, a new street fighter theme for the ps3. You can install from the ps3 browser.

Meh, I was never really impressed with the fighting style of SF (though infinitely better than Mortal Kombat). I always thought Soul Calibur was the paragon of fighting games, and still do. The fights never seem to go smooth in SF, and the combos always seemed to end up dry to me. There's no range at all, and that's what sets Soul Calibur apart, is the combo setups. No fkn low fierce sweeps over and over.

That battle was quite epic though ;>

What?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_E3n0hZZug

Huh?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ilaIKBYKqQ (a bit long on the startup)

Well I like 2d more than the 3d. I also enjoyed Soul Edge and caliburs. Just not as much as the street fighters, guilty gear x2, and KoFs.

Memories
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sy2PbrV ... re=related

Wish more 2d sprite fighters would come out with online. Heck SF Alpha 3 finalremix ultima HD with online play on PSN would be good enough. Until then I get to wait on SF2 HD.

Soul Calibur tourney fights

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNQKTSUhZyM

Oh and I have been playing a lot of tekken lately against people on my PSN. I'm getting sick with Sergei Dragunov. That's a pretty good game as well but some characters are pretty cheap (darn hoga and Lili). Shoot I can't find a good annoying combo crazy lili player as hoga plays. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaZoQVMDMKU. Wish I could record matches and save it to the PS3 like you can save mugshots in burnout. Need more stuff like this in these short match type of games.

These are the two people I play as currently (tho this is tekken 6, can't wait for this to be released) in tekken 5 DR online http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUATI7OMkYc

Dragunov is a beat down in the flesh. Asuka can mess people up with her chainable custom combos (think dmc type of linking combos).

Edit: lol watkins. Well it seems fun I'll give you that. This year is the year of fighters and everyone has something or a lot to be happy for. Me I'm getting Tekken6, SF2 HD, SF4 (if it make it this year), and KOF (same as SF4). There are a crap load of fighters and all of them will have online. What a world!

Edit 2 to add smash brawl.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFNDzrGZiz4

Long setup to start the fight (video), may need to skip to it. Looks like a power stone type. So it has it's own place aside from 2d fighters (street fighter/King of Fighters), and 3d fighters (tekken/soul calibur). Everyone wins again.

Know thy opponent. Lili combo session with a rather interesting sounding japanese song in the background.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVJ8vkic ... re=related

This is a better diversity of combos and actually some kicking in it which is what lili do best. Darn kicks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN8ARBs3 ... re=related
