29 years ago, unbeknownst to his captures, a young warrior tore free from his womb prison with but his bare hands. Rappelling out of the chamber, he immediately began to wreak havoc on those who stood in his way. He was out for blood, and would stop at nothing to satiate his thirst.
The early days saw nothing but war between himself and his oppressors. He was out-numbered and out-sized, but never out-hearted. His iron determination saw him training night and day to one day end the evil once and for all. However he was not without his weaknesses. He struggled internally between the blood lust that drove him and the compassion that often distracted him. In the end, he resolved that he would continue on the path he set out, and to ensure no further distractions, he would tear out his own heart. Ever time his heart cried out he would crush it and it would only whimper.
Years passed, and the day soon came when he was ready at last to unleash his wrath. He rode into battle, heart in hand, and slew the entire enemy legion single-handedly. The once green rolling hills now a wasteland of death and decay.
Victorious, he howled at the skies and raised his heart to the heavens. It beat slowly, for it was tired and began to grow weak after being crushed so many times. He looked at it and his feelings of triumph turned to rage. How could such a heart betray him? In his finest moment, when he should have been his most happiest, his heart could do nothing more than murmur a lub-dub.
At once he knew the error of his ways. In his search for power, he was sacrificing his own heart. As he reached the pinnacle of strength, so too did his heart reach the end of its limits. He fell to the ground, cupping his heart in both his hands and sobbed for three days. He held his heart close to his chest and tried to place it back into its proper place but it would not fit as the wound had already closed up. He tried forcefully again and again but was met failure each time.
Broken-hearted the brave warrior resolved to leave his homeland. Heart in hand, he journeyed across the lands, over snow, sand, bog and forest, looking for a way to restore his heart once more. He travelled for years like so until he could no longer remember what he was looking for. His heart had shrivelled to the size of a pea and was hard as a rock. He came upon a clearing and lay on the ground, for he knew his journey would soon be over. He placed his pea-heart over the wound and closed his eyes.
The little heart rolled around his chest as he breathed and fell into the crevice where the wound was for it never fully healed. As he took his final breath, the heart fell into his chest.
