History lesson! Some explanations on internet terms that are being used on FFXI...occasionally... Most are copypasta'd from the lurkmoar wiki, I adjusted some for "clarity".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Definition of Meme
Anything that is used and reused beyond it's life expectancy. Formal meaning for meme is "A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another." The term itself was coined by the evolutionist Richard Dawkins, and its correct pronunication rhymes with "gene" ("meem").

A CAT IS FINE TOO
From a Tsukihime doujin in which the main character Shiki Tohno decides to rape his succubus familiar, Ren. To escape from being raped Ren turns herself into a cat; however, Shiki is undeterred and utters the line in question while unzipping his pants.

Additional Pylons
A Pylon is a Protoss structure in Starcraft, needed for a Probe to be able to warp in most Protoss buildings. Protoss structures and units, to a lesser extent, draw their energy from a great psionic energy matrix that emanates from Aiur. While a Nexus provides a link to this matrix, Khaydarin Crystal-based Pylons are needed to actually tap into the energy required to provide psionic energy to new colonies. Each Pylon generates a short-ranged aura of energy, which can provide the power needed by structures and warp gates. If a Protoss building loses its connection to the Psionic Matrix, it will shut down until it is reconnected, and new units cannot be gated in if there is insufficient psionic energy to provide them with power.

The phrase "You must construct additional pylons!" became a very popular internet term due to its annoying necessity and is used as a generic solution to almost every problem.

An Hero
A boy named Mitchell committed suicide by shooting himself in the head because of issues in school, reasons for his suicide are unknown to even his family. A typical rumor is that he killed himself over an iPod, which was based off the MySpace tribute page to him in which a person comments about his iPod being stolen a day earlier than his death. His family posted about him to MySpace under the account "ripmitchell" with the (un)intentionally hilarious (for the subject of the profile) song "Bad Day" playing on the page. Soon, a parody site with the name "mitchthezombie" appeared. The most often parodied part of the original MySpace account was a repeated grammatical error, "an hero".

Barrel roll
An aerial combat maneuver in which a fighter plane spins clockwise or counterclockwise while still flying forward. "Do a barrel roll" is a line that Peppy frequently shouts in the game Star Fox 64. In the game, your fighter is invincible while barrel rolling. Ironically, the "barrel roll" depicted in the game is actually an aileron roll.
"Do a barrel roll," like "stick it in her pooper," is often used as a stock reply when someone asks for advice.

BITCHES DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY *
Originated from a picture of a person who didn't know about the timer function of a camera taking a picture of himself wearing a shirt saying "BITCHES DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY DICK". Has been photoshopped and altered to hell and back.

The Cake is a Lie
Throughout Portal, GLaDOS, the super-computer administering the test, promises that in addition to furthering scientific advancement, the player will also be rewarded with cake upon completion of the test. Also throughout Portal, the phrase "The Cake is a Lie" is seen scrawled on walls and inside vents in a desperate and crazed manner, presumably by an earlier test-participant; one who might be trying to warn you of something. From this it can probably be inferred that GLaDOS and Aperture Science have something other than cake waiting for you at the end of the test. This line is invariably chimed by users anytime a post is made by someone claiming they did anything involving a cake, with the responders steadfastly asserting that the cake was in fact a lie.

Copypasta
Also known as copipe by retards; Usually a long story or memorable post told by someone that gets reposted over and over again, by fans, or to annoy people. These stories are usually from a first person perspective, and detail an event that happened to the original poster recently. Common examples are stories involving a parent catching their son looking at 4chan, and what the parents do in response. Another example is the famous vapor ointment copypasta, where a man describes his experience rubbing vapor ointment on his 12 year old niece's bare chest. Other famous ones include Bento Box, orgasmGET, and the Yoshinoya Rant (one of a whole repertoire of copy-paste "rants" swiped from 2ch, where they're used to insult people who start stupid threads).

Delicious Cake
From a popular hentai image featuring a girl frantically devouring a piece of cake (photoshopped onto a penis), with the text replaced with "THIS IS DELICIOUS CAKE, I MUST EAT IT".

DESU
A word commonly added to the end of sentences in Japan, means "it is/be/are/am" and so on; it's considered more formal than usual and is mainly used when talking to people you don't know or to a superior. A huge amount of anime characters also use it.
The Desu meme is inspired by Suiseiseki from the anime Rozen Maiden, who says it extremely frequently as a kind of catchphrase; she is often simply called DESU because her name is difficult for some people to spell. DESU is often a spam reply when an unwitting newcomer asks for the definition; this was probably inspired by the Dan Kim web comic where she constantly repeats desu.

DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS
A simple but effective trolling technique imported from bash.org. Frequently, after someone with a name but no registration posts something, the next post in that thread consists of someone else posting "DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS" under the same name.

Emo
Short for "Emotional", a sub-genre of punk music created in the 1980s that died and was reborn somewhat disfiguredly in the 1990s and popularized by bands such as Weezer, Simple Plan and Dashboard Confessional. The lyrics to emo songs are often dark, confessional and self-loathing in nature, and lacking in specific details; as a result, it is primarily listened to by depressed, traumatized and/or emotionally unbalanced teenagers and while emo bands often have huge cult followings they are generally derided by serious music fans as simplistic and whiny. A broader definition detaches from the musical origin and describes people who are more introspective over their feelings.
More recently it has become an adjective used to describe those who are overly depressive; angst ridden; dress in black; listen to Linkin Park, etc. In other words: the new Goth. A more common use of the word is in the phrase "Cheer up, emo kid", in response to anyone who makes a post containing whining, overly emotional language, appeals for pity or sympathy, or complaints about the poster's own personal life.

Fag
Generic insult for anyone the poster doesn't like, especially if they're whining or trying to draw attention to themselves; similar in meaning to "asshole." Has little or nothing to do with the target's sexuality.

Fap
Noise made during male masturbation. Fap fap fap fap Originated in a translation of the manga "Heartbreak Angels"; it was then popularized in the web comic Sexy Losers by clay (contrary to popular belief, it did not originate there), and has since spread to the entire Internet.

HABEEB IT
An attempt at a meme by photoshopping nonsense words into the speech bubbles on the page of a father/son incest comic; anyone posting a comment that contains the words "I don't believe it" will likely get a few "Habeeb it!" replies. A few people are using "Habeeb it" instead of "believe it" in normal speech as well.

Harbl
A codeword used as a synonym of 'penis'.

How do I shot web?
Phrase started by Natural Selection players; in NS, one of the alien races can actually shoot spider webs as a weapon. One day, some Goons (see Something Awful) were playing NS when a lot of newbies and clueless people were on the server. "how do i shot web" was one of the questions that kept coming up. Someone took a screenshot, posted it to FYAD, and it went from there.
Most commonly seen as an image macro, featuring Spider-Man holding out his arms in an "I dunno..." gesture.

I'd hit it.
Describes something as "fuckable". Occasionally substituted with "I'd tap it". Incorrectly used in a famous McDonald's advertising campaign in the US.

I'm in ur base killin ur d00ds
Originated on battle.net. In the Games forum, someone posted a thread about a Starcraft game in which he had totally owned some poor b.net sod. There was a screenshot of the tard saying "where are you?" and the b.net guy replying "im in ur base, killin ur doodz". The gist of the thread is that the guy who said it ended up losing or something, so it was poetic justice, or whatnot.

I see what you did there.
Common response to posts that are meant to be clever or funny. As many other responses like "O RLY", this has taken on mutliple, and even contradictory meanings.
1. The post is too obviously derived from something else (usually whatever forced meme is making the rounds at the time) and thus not quite as amusing as it could have been, or it's just too plain hard to understand.
2. At first I didn't see what was funny about that, but now I do. Nice job. Synononym: An image macro saying "At first I was like.. " (Serious look) "But then I LOLd" (laughing face).
3. HA HA HA!

IT'S A TRAP
A meme based on the line by Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi; started on Fark around 2002, and spread to the rest of the Web from there over a period of years. On 4chan, "IT'S A TRAP" took on a new meaning, being used in response to pictures of men who appear to be women. Degenerated into "IT'S A TARP", which is basically the same thing. Later gave rise to the term REVERSE TRAP, referring to a female cross-dresser.

Juggernaut Bitch
A popular Internet meme which originated as a fan-edited video of the 1990s X-Men cartoon, which largely revolves around the character Juggernaut saying "I'm the Juggernaut bitch!". The meme exploded in popularity when the line was included in the new movie X-Men: The Last Stand. A sound pack from the original video has been created for users of the fighting game program MUGEN, making it possible to hack the sound into Juggernaut's Marvel vs. Capcom character. This has resulted in much YouTube hilarity as The Juggernaut Bitch goes around beating the crap out of various other characters, or in some cases getting beat up himself, all while making sure everybody knows who the fuck he is.

Kill it with fire
An expression of outrage, especially appropriate where furry porn or hideously ugly people are involved.

Leeroy Jenkins
Leeroy Jenkins is a character created by player Ben Schultz in World of Warcraft.

The event takes place in the Upper Blackrock Spire instanced dungeon in World of Warcraft, inside the Rookery room, one of the most notoriously difficult sections for newcomers to the game and responsible for countless wipes and other mishaps similar to the one depicted in the video. It opens with the guild members discussing an impending raid via audio teleconferencing, complete with regimented battle plan and statistical breakdown of their survival. The fastidiousness of their preparations is ruined by the sudden and unexpected actions of Leeroy Jenkins, a Human paladin, who was away from his computer, heating up some leftover chicken for dinner. After missing the entire conversation, Leeroy suddenly charges into the Rookery, yelling, "Time's up, let's do this! LEEROOOOY JENKINS!" There is about a second of stunned silence from his companions, followed by carnage when they proceed to hastily attempt the attack (as Leeroy's actions have now alerted the monsters and aggravated them). The raid's original plan deteriorates due to mass confusion and panic as the group is quickly picked off and killed. Leeroy's teammates berate him with insults (such as "Leeroy, you are just stupid as hell", "Goddammit, Leeroy!" and "Leeroy, why do you do this shit?"), while a distraught sounding Leeroy responds, "It's not my fault." The battle ends in failure, with all the guild members dead or fleeing, berating Leeroy for his brashness. Leeroy's final words are, "At least I got chicken", referring to the reason he was absent from his computer in the first place.

Let's Order Linguini
A small meme originating from an Australian episode of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" where one of the first questions was to define the commonly used internet acronym "LOL". Let's Order Linguini was the most ridiculous and therefore memorable of the false options. Furthermore, it should be noted that the contestant in question had to use his 'ask the audience' lifeline to answer the question - and while over 60% of the audience steered him true, there was in fact a portion that thought Linguini was the way to go.

Lion (AKA RAWR I'M A LION!)
A white circle with a right side up >:3 in it and a speech bubble with the caption "RAWR I'M A LION!." Lion showed up in early 2006 with the lion image and it went with the saying "JESUS CHRIST IT'S A LION GET IN THE CAR!"

Lurk More
Lurk More (sometimes Lurk Moar) is the standard response to any post displaying ignorance of an established meme, or just plain ignorance. Variants such as "More, motherfucker, do you lurk it?" are also seen on occassion.

Man the harpoons!
Reply towards pictures of fat people.

Moonspeak
Originally a semi-derisive term for Japanese. Its use has since expanded to mean any language that isn't English, especially if it uses lots of special characters (like umlauts) or, as with Japanese, a different character set entirely (which is even worse if you don't have the fonts installed). While Moonspeak is the universal term for a different language, Spanish has been dubbed Taco Speak.

MUDA MUDA MUDA
Dio Brando's other battle cry from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, japanese word which translates to "USELESS".

NO U
Usually accompanied by a picture of someone pointing, NO U is slang for No, you. The comment simply implies that a particular poster ought to apply his suggestion to himself. That is, if Anonymous says "Your statement is stupid and you're an idiot" and Anonymous replies "NO U" he is telling the first Anonymous his statement is stupid and he's an idiot. This is mostly a sarcastic way of pointing out how internet debates all too often end up. Most frequently accompanied by a picture of a yelling Asian man with his pointing hand shopped into various places.

O RLY?
A condensed phrase for "Oh, really?". Usually implies a sarcastic sense of disbelief. The textual phrase "oh really?" was first popularized on the SomethingAwful forums. The phrase was initially one of many used during the FYAD sub forum's fad of compressing words by removing unnecessary letters. While first image macros were created on the Something Awful Forums, these did not include the now ubiquitous Snowy Owl image macro. This came from 4chan in the spring of 2005 when the word "repost" had been wordfiltered to "Owl." Thus owl macros were constantly posted stating "every day is owl." This particular macro stood out, spread to Fark and YTMND (among others) and has become an infamous internet term. A recent WoW update has added a white owl called "O'Reily" flying around a house just north of Steamweedle Port. The original photo was taken by nature photographer John White, and is now inextricably linked to "O RLY?".

OMG ZERG RUSH
What happens to you when you let your guard down playing a Korean at Starcraft. Has a moderate following. Sometimes followed by "KEKEKE"(Korean for lol)

ORA ORA ORA
Uttured by Jotaro Kujo's Stand Star Platinum from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure as it does battle. Unlike the similar MUDA MUDA MUDA, ORA does not translate, as it is not a word. Usually posted in response to jojo related threads or to pictures depicting multiple punchings.

Over 9000!
A meme popularized by Kajetokun (aka Kajet or Kajmaster Kajet), originating from a 13-second clip of the first season of Dragonball Z in which Nappa asks Vegeta to measure Goku's power level with his scouter. Vegeta responds "It's over NINE THOUSAAAAAANNNNNDDDD!" in a ludicrously over-the-top manner while crushing the scouter to pieces with his hand. Kajetokun created a 1:50-length parody of the scene in which the line is said repeatedly at slowed-down and sped-up tempos, with the video footage rotated to strange angles, short clips of GaoGaiGar inserted at odd times, and strategically added bleeps to make it look (at one point) like Nappa is asking Vegeta about Goku's cock.

Pedo Bear
ASCII art creature. This one, predictably, looks like a bear and is often sighted with lolis. Originally "Kuma" from 2ch, who is not a pedophile at all, is a nature lover, and supposedly hates Ronald McDonald. A few users started an in-joke whereby one would post Osakaphone saying something, and the other would post Kuma with a response. As the posts began getting more and more sexually oriented, paired with the innocence and widely-held immaturity of Osaka, led some to dub Kuma as being "pedo" for her. Now Pedobear is placed after pictures of underage girls.

Rickroll
On March 29th 2007, there were a large number of threads discussing about the recently-released GTA4 trailer. A mischievous Anonymous posted a YouTube link to what he described as a "GTA4 gameplay vid". At the time there was much speculation surrounding the new GTA installment, so the link drew a large amount of curiosity, curiosity that was quickly squashed upon finding that the YouTube link actually directed users to the music video of "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. Many people shat bricks when they found a skinny white boy singing like a black man instead of anything even remotely videogame related, and cries of "ONDORE!" soon echoed within the commentary of that particular video. The residents of the boards found this hilariously absurd, and soon enough, Anonymous stealthily inserted links to this video in many threads, resulting in much hilarity when other posters get a vintage 80's surprise. Due to the fact that this meme relies on cunning deception much like Duckroll, the practice of tricking people into viewing this song is called the Rickroll, trolls who do it are called Rickrollers, those who fall for it exclaim they've been 'rickrolled,' etc. etc. etc.

Shoop Da Whoop
Bizarre picture of Cell, a villain from Dragonball Z, which began to sweep the internet during July 2006. Cell's face is blacked out, googly eyes and big red lips are MS Painted in and his wide open mouth from the original is left in, along with one of three captions: "SHOOP DA WHOOP", "IMMA CHARGIN MAH LAZER" or "IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZER", the last of which shows energy being fired from Cell's mouth. Another picture is "OPS I SWALLOWED MAH LAZER" (misspelling intentional), in which the face is placed on an image of Cell ballooning outwards as he is about to explode. Other characters are now being given the blackface treatment and have shouted that they are chargin' their lazers. Images altered in this manner are said to be "shooped". That term has been corrupted to refer to any MS Paint edit (as opposed to "shopped" for Photoshop edits), and sometimes further corrupted to refer to all image edits, even less obvious ones done with programs like Photoshop.

Schlick
The noise made during female masturbation, the feminine equivalent of "fap". "Schlick Schlick". Popularized on the webcomic sexylosers.com. Also "scrunch scrunch" or "squish squish". Try it today!

So i herd u liek mudkips
Originally a DeviantArt comment inviting someone to join a Pokemon usergroup. Used freely as "so i herd u like *"

Stick it in her pooper!
A default answer whenever anyone asks for advice about a girl. There are several image macros on this theme, most commonly involving a Japanese man shouting into a phone.

TITS OR GTFO
Fairly obvious, commonly seen in response to pictures of girls that are not showing naked breasts, indicating that they can choose to show them or GTFO (get the fuck out). Often posted with an image depicting a multiple choice test with two boxes, "Tits" and "GTFO" labeled "The choice is yours." The same image is also sometimes posted with the "GTFO" box already checked, for subjects found to be boring or unattractive.

VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO
First started in response to a picture of a Honda, VTEC refers to Honda's variable valve timing system, which is used to increase horsepower at higher RPMs. Since many people didn't think highly of VTEC, this expression was used to negatively describe any souped up Asian car (Ricer). Was a huge meme back in the day.

WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?
Implies that the something, usually to say an accompanying image or the one being replied to is so horrible that its very existance implies either the non-existence of God or that God has abandoned you (leaving you to the whims of whatever horrible thing is in the picture). Usually seen around "The King" or other creepy things.

WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
The battle cry of Dio Brando, the vampire nemesis of Joseph Joestar, star of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, made popular by a flash featuring a stick figure (assumed to be Dio Brando) dropping a steamroller on his victim. While the character and the noise originate in the Japanese manga, the stance of the stick figure, the use of vehicles as weapons, and the sound file itself were taken specifically from a Capcom fighting game based on the manga. Pronounced "REEEEEEEE", NOT "Rye", as is the common misconception. Dio actually does throw a steamroller on Jojo at the end of Part 3 of the manga.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbArvIqZzkI

Y HELO THAR
Popular meme appearing in autumn of 2004, first seen photoshopped onto a picture of a person talking on a telephone with an exaggerated silly facial expression. Sometimes seen as Y HELO THAR BUTTSECKS? More popular format is Y HALO THAR - normally this is photoshopped onto a random image or a photo of Master Chief.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now yous is smart! Who really knew where they all came from? :hahaimusingtheinternet:

Maybe I can find moar!

Pedo Bear cracks me up everytime I see him. Someone should dress up as him for Halloween.

I'm happy I only knew a few of those.
