depending on where you read its either Spring '09 or as late as '11

looks pretty good, brought to us by zipper who gave us the original Socom series, of which i love, although let us down with III and combined assault I am slightly weary of what it will offer regards to handling lag (256 man battle field) and Communication quality.

I'm looking froward to this beast. I remember hearing that Zipper was working on a MMOshooter community/world game. The first thing I thought of was FFXI with guns and 100% less time sinks/camping (it was a time when I was playing ffxi). Seeing The Agency (a spy MMO with minimal time sinks, and the ability to do things solo) and this makes me willing to play another MMO game. As long as it's pick up and play, I don't mind if i'm not among the best, or have super high rank. I just want to have fun.

I hope this game is great though. I imagine a session with MAG could be like going to a rendezvous point at some hotspot to meet up with another unit to support them because they are in desperate need. Then after being there a while, you see 3 tanks heading your way and don't have the ammunition to take them out. You call for air support but they say they are far off from getting there and you then have to hide out and pretend the place is deserted so you can ambush the tanks and soldiers surrounding the tanks somehow (ok I know it seems like I'm speaking about that part from Saving Private Ryan but I didn't expect it to lol. And since I notice it sound like that I might as well fast froward some to make a long story short). After struggling to stay alive and keep control of a zone and all hope seems lost, the air support finally show up and bomb the crap out of those tanks, and all of the infantry soldiers.

Now everyone in your clan is screaming into the mic, grabbing their cat, wife, etc cheering in the background while the cat, wife, etc. don't know that the heck is wrong with the clan member. For not dying, and taking control of the situation, Tyriac is promoted to lieutenant! Everyone congratulate Tyriac for a job well done, keeping her cool, and leading the group to victory.

All of this was a mere proxy in the world of MAG. While these, oh 25-30 players battled it out, over 200 others were also dealing with wars of their own. All 200 won't be in the same area, like all 5,000 people won't be in whitegate in ffxi. Resistance1 could do 60 player games online in it's testing stage (beta) but they reduced it to 40max because of the maps and for gameplay.

Resistance 2 will have 60 players max, and the proxy battle setup with squads given objectives to carry out (hold this bunker), attack and extract these documents from that bunker, take out those AA guns at this location, escort these tanks to that location, utterly destroy the soldiers in this area, etc. Doing things that relate to the objective you're given gives you points towards leveling up in resistance2. In MAG you gain rank, and I'm sure things will be like a rpg where you gain skills, and perks also. I hope it's not a fps though. I like the socom 3rd person view.
