Are any of you car guys? I just asked on some car forum, heres whatsup
Quote:
I don't know a whole lot about cars, but I really need to figure this out. I have a 2007 5 speed cobalt, it just rolled over 100k kms a few weeks ago, and has worked great up until now.

My friend said its probably the clutch, but other people are saying its the transmission. When I give it gas, it revv's up, almost like the gear isn't catching, it drives fine until it hits about 2 grand, then it just keeps revving the more gas I give, it doesn't accelerate after that, or at least very slowly, but it doesn't have any problems going into gear. Would really appreciate any help!

its probably something really obvious, but under the hood, I don't know much. Friend says its the clutch, dad says its the transmission, neither know a lot about cars.. hah.

The problem is that you're talking about KM/HR and not MPH.

In all seriousness though, it's most likely the clutch or drivetrain. I too don't know that much but I used to have a standard car (new one is autoshift, not automatic) and I never had transmission problems, just the ones I listed.

It's the tranny.
you may get lucky money wise and its just the starter.
If its chugging its most likely the valves or pistons being too hot, in which its your water filter.

Car problems suck, if you don't know licensed mechanic as friends you could be paying way too much for things that you don't need.

my boss said he thinks its the clutch. It would actually be better for me if the transmission went, I have power train warranty until 120k kms. Clutch may be covered, but probably not. Tranny would be for sure. Its driving the same as normal, except that it starts to slip and just revs once it hits 2 grand.

Also Titti, I dont even know what a fiat is... also, I only know one person with a mini cooper, there very rare around here. In the community I live in, 70% of the people drive a honda (accord or civic), 25% is average-shity cars and trucks (like 10-20 grand cars). and 5%, meaning like maybe 15 people, have a camaro, corvette, challenger etc. There's a lot of hillbilly's around here, the kids my age think a hatchback civic with dual exaust is the best car ~ever~.

if the tranny is covered for 20k more you should just destroy it and get a new one for free
if the problem persists after that think about changing the clutch then because I'm just about positive nobody covers clutches

I've heard some people got it covered, others didn't. I hope its the tranny, but I'm pretty sure its the clutch.
